A little after I had my fifth child, Arthur (a.k.a. Aquaman), my husband and I decided to go to Wal-mart with the whole family. As we walked through the store, people turned to stare at our large family, some whispered quietly to one another in disbelief. It was like a whole circus of entertainers had walked through Wal-mart, and all eyes were on us!
At first I was a little offended by the unwanted attention. Over time though, I have come to the realization that people will give attention (whether positive or negative) to what they think is unusual or different, and let’s face it. It is very uncommon now for families to have more than two to three kids. In fact, the United States Census reported that only 10% of women today end their childbearing years with 4 or more children.
However, unwanted attention is just one of the familiar concerns that bigger families face. Little things such as scheduling issues, financial issues, housing issues, seem to be bigger in a super family such as ours. Over time, we become more creative or resilient as we try to find answers to many of these issues.
Thus, I hope that this blog/website can serve as an inspiration and support to other large families. Please keep in mind though that I am not an expert in solving family matters or problems. Only a professionally trained individual can help with that. However, if you do enjoy the content in our site, please do link to us and email others about us.
